William Edward Andrews, a farmer, died May 29 at an area hospital. He was 85.

Andrews, a lifelong resident of Monroe County, lived in Uriah. He was affiliated with the Little River Community Action board of directors and the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

He served as a deacon at Grove Hill Baptist Church in Uriah. He was also a member of the Merrymakers Club.

He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, having attained the rank of staff sergeant.

Survivors include his wife, Dannie Louise Andrews; and one daughter, Allavey L. Lambert, both of Uriah; three brothers, Curtis G. Andrews of Little River, Col. Charles Andrews of Montgomery and Gerald Andrews of Monroeville; three sisters, Emma J. Oliver of Chicago, Brunette A. Howard of Mobile and Shirley Evans of Birmingham; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

The funeral is set for 11 a.m. Saturday at Grove Hill Baptist Church in Uriah. Burial will be in Morning Star Cemetery in Uriah, with Jones Unity Funeral Home in Monroeville directing.
