On June 22, 1908 at about 6:00 or 6:30 p.m., a tornado struck the Peter Klaassen home. The mother was holding eight-month-old Mariechi (Maria) on her lap at the time, leaning over her to protect her when flying timber fell on the mother, killing the baby.
