Carrie Luella (Lou) Baird Howard passed away on Aug. 11, 2009, in Perkins, at the age of 95. The daughter of Garland M. and Carrie B. Baird, Lou was born on July 27, 1914, in Maysville, Ark., and was reared and educated in the Maysville, Ark., and Southwest City, Mo. area. She was united in marriage to Norman Ross Howard on April 11, 1941, in Guthrie and to this union two children, Garland Ross and Lynda Lou were born. Norman R. "Ross" preceded her in death on Nov. 22, 2006. Lou was retired from the Oklahoma Tax Commission. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Cushing.Survivors include her children, Garland and Lynda of the home; her niece Carol Bowles and husband Paul of Jay; nephew David Holcombe and wife Gayla of Jay; and her special cousins Wilma Smith and Sheila Smith of Sperry.The Howard family would like to extend a heartfelt "thank you" to our special SolAmor Hospice aide Krissy and nurse Tonya, along with other nurses and aides who helped care for our mom. She loved all of you.A graveside service will be held 10 a.m. Friday, Aug. 14, 2009, in the Big Creek Church of the Brethren Churchyard Cemetery in Cushing with Pastor Ralph Hickman officiating. Services have been entrusted to the Palmer Marler Funeral Home in Cushing.
