Edith V. (Bigham) O'Rear was born December 17, 1915, in Labette, KS, and died June 9, 2004, at the Foxwood Springs Living Center in Raymore, MO. She was born the third of eight children belonging to Eva (Williams) and Stanley Bigham. She attended grade school near the family homestead. Following graduation, she worked in Oswego, KS. She married William Howard O'Rear on June 1, 1932, in Girard, KS. There were two children, Billie Howard and Carol Irene, born to this 51-year union. They lived their early marriage years in Oswega and Winfield, KS. Later, Howard's work took them to Graham Station near Independence, KS. After moving to rural Caney, KS, Edith worked at Ted's Grill in Coffeyville and the Country Club in Pittsburg, KS. She also worked at Electra Manufacturing in Independence, KS, in their photo lab. Later, she used this skill with her work at Hadden Photography in Coffeyville. Her retirement years were started in Coffeyville, KS. There, she was a volunteer for the Hotline and the Red Cross. She was a member of the Caney Baptist Church. To be close to part of her family, she moved to Lee's Summit, MO, in 1981. Edith volunteered at her new church home, the Faith Baptist Church of Lee's Summit. Through the years, she sang in the choir and often sang duets with other members of the church. While physically able she helped with flowers both outside and inside the church. Her faithful attendance to both church and family was an inspiration to those who knew her. She was preceded in death by her husband, Howard (Shorty) O'Rear, in 1983, her parents, two brothers and three sisters. She leaves two children, Billie O'Rear and wife Dee Ann of Grand Junction, CO, Carol Moats and husband, Lon, of Lee's Summit. She will be missed by eight grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, and one greatgreat-grandchild. Two surviving sisters are Mable Testorff of Oswego, KS, and Emma Clemons of Tulsa, OK. Visitation will be 1 p.m. Monday, June 14, at Langsford Funeral Home, with services to follow at 2 p.m. Interment to be at Restlawn Memorial Park with graveside service at 2 p.m. on Tuesday.
