William John (Bill) PIKE was born in Haggerstone London from a family originally from Street in Somerset who were shoe makers. Bill was a Shipping clerk who took up boxing and was friends with Thomas (Pedlar) Palmer World Bantam weight champion. He married Rebecca Hall in 1899 and had five children. The family broke up after 1906. William started a family with Ellen Corp (Formally Hall) and is shown in the 1921 census as a Ships Fitter's Mate working for R & H Green & Silley Weir, Engineers, Royal Albert Dock, London.
He died in Forest House, part of Whips Cross Hospital Leytonstone, London, after being a long stay resident with seemingly no known living relatives!
After much research, his grandchildren found his unmarked grave in 2010 and arranged to have a cross suitable inscribed to mark his last resting place.
