GLADYS ALDRICH, 91

Gladys Aldrich, 91, 716 N. Broadway St., Greensburg, died Friday, Jan 20, 1989, in the St. Francis Hospital, Beech Grove, Ind.

She was born Dec. 12, 1897, in Defiance, Ohio, the daughter of Ira G. and Fannie McConnell Aldrich. She was the last of nine children. She graduated from Greensburg High School in 1916 and from the Methodist Hospital School of Nursing in 1921. She assisted Dr. Edmund Clark in the first operation performed in Decatur County Memorial Hospital in February of 1922. She was a private duty nurse in Indianapolis for 45 years, and retired in 1963.l She was a member of the Greensburg United Methodist Church, which she joined in 1912. She also belonged to the Retired Registered Nurses club of Indianapolis, the Historical Society of Decatur County and to the Greensburg Senior Citizens.

She is survived by a niece, Julia Aldrich Banister, Columbus, Ind.; a great-niece; a great-nephew; three great-great-nephews; and cousins: Roy Aldrich, Connersville, Ind., Helen Russell, Richard Russell, Greensburg, and Frances Mefford, Auburn, Ind.

Services will be 2 p.m. Monday at the Gilliland-Howe Funeral Home, Greensburg, with the Rev. Michael Beck officiating.

Burial will be in South Park Cemetery.

Visitation will be at the funeral home Monday from noon until time of the service.
