WILLIAMSPORT - Alice Louise Hartman, 77, a resident of Homewood Retirement Home of Williamsport, Md., and formerly of Hagerstown, Md., died Wednesday afternoon, Sept. 17, 2008, at the nursing center.

Born March 1, 1931, in Franklin County, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Samuel S. and Nina A. (Dentler) Snider.

Mrs. Hartman was a registered nurse, having worked as an operating room nurse in hospitals in the Baltimore area and Charlottesville, Va. She was a 1950 graduate of Greencastle (Pa.) High School and a graduate of the former Washington County Hospital School of Nursing of Hagerstown.

Mrs. Hartman was an active member of the Grace Brethren Church of Hagerstown, where she served as president and missions chairman of the Women of Grace. She also served on the church's missions committee, taught Sunday school, was a deaconess, worked in the church office and was a member of the Harvesters Sunday School Class.

Mrs. Hartman loved her family and particularly enjoyed being with her granddaughters. She and her husband, Paul Edwin Hartman, were married Sept. 19, 1953 in the Macedonia United Brethren Church in Greencastle. He died on Oct. 31, 2007.

Surviving family are: one son, Randall E. (husband of Joni) Hartman, Ellicott City, Md.; three granddaughters, Beth Anne Dunphy and husband, Martin, Sarah Hartman and Rebecca Hartman; one sister, Jane Fetterhoff, Greencastle, Pa.; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by five brothers and three sisters.

Funeral services will be held on Sunday, Sept. 21, at 2 p.m. from Grace Brethren Church, 837 Spruce St., Hagerstown, with the Rev. Harald Bjerga officiating.

Burial will be in Montgomery Brethren in Christ Church Cemetery near Mercersburg, Pa.

The family will receive friends at Harold M. Zimmerman and Son Funeral Home, 45 S. Carlisle St., Greencastle on Saturday from 6 to 8 p.m. and at the church one hour before the service on Sunday.

Memorial contributions may be given in her memory to Grace Brethren Church, 837 Spruce St., Hagerstown, MD 21740 or to Homewood Retirement Center, Benevolent Fund, 16505 Virginia Ave., Williamsport, MD 21795.
