US Congressman. Elected as a Jacksonian to represent Connecticut At-Large in the Twenty-Fourth Congress, he served from March 1835 until his death. Wildman was born in Danbury, Connecticut. Apprenticed as a merchant, he made his fortune manufacturing hats and established the first hat stores in Charleston, South Carolina and Savannah, Georgia. He was Postmaster of Danbury from 1805 to 1835, served two terms in the State House of Representatives (1818, 1819), and was the first President of the Danbury National Bank (1824 to 1826). Wildman died suddenly in Washington, DC, only nine months into his term in the US House. There is a cenotaph for him at Congressional Cemetery.
