Funeral services for Lester Bevans were held Monday, Jan. 10, at the chapel of the Barkley-Davis Funeral home in Canton, with the Rev. Robert Scott of Williamstown in charge. Music was furnished by Mrs. Floyd Welker at the organ. Pall bearers were Lloyd Raleigh, Raymond Lillard, Clarence Gilbert, Louis Allison, Marvin Ridgely and Glenn Wiley. Burial was in Zion Hill cemetery near Monticello. Mr. Bevans died Friday, Jan. 7, in Veterans hospital at Iowa City, after an extended illness. Lester Collins Bevans, the son of Earl Clinton and Mae Collins Bevans, was born at Keokuk, on Feb. 8, 1923. He was married to LaVerne Merrell in Canton on March 18, 1950. Mr. Bevans was a veteran of World War II. He was an active and progressive farmer, and a member of many farm organizations. He was a pilot and a member of the Missouri Flying Farmer's Association. Mr. Bevans was a member of the Zion Hill Presbyterian church. Survivors include his wife; two daughters, LaGina Mae Bevans and LeAnn Marie Bevans, both at home; and other relatives. He was preceded in death by his parents; and an infant brother.
