James M. DeWitt, 75, Canton, died Tuesday, January 17, 1995, in Blessing Hospital in Quincy, Ill. Born June 21, 1919, near Canton, he was a son of Wesley Mervin and Bertha Lorene Reiter DeWitt. He married Leora Ludwig on May 13, 1945, in LaGrange. She survives. Mr. DeWitt was a retired farmer who also had worked for Culver-Stockton College and the City of Canton. He was of the Pentecostal faith. Survivors also include three sons, James R. of Excello, Thomas E. "Ted" of Cuba, Ill., and Charles L. of Canton; three daughters, Betty A Behrend of Los Lunes, N. M., Karen L. DeWitt of Crown Point, Ind., and Sharon L. Bringer of LaGrange; and eight grandchildren. Funeral services were conducted at 10 a.m., Saturday in the Davis Funeral Home in Canton by the Rev. Russell Johnson. Music was rpovided by Mrs. Elsie Brinkley. Pallbearers were James Scott, Theodore Berhorst, Ron Bringer, J. W. Clark, Alan Berhorst and Paul Feldkamp. Honorary pallbearers were Edward Berhorst, Robert Doran and Wayne Clark. Burial was in Forest Grove Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Eye Research Foundation.
