Age 31 years.
Son of Lathrop & Sarah Baldwin.
In the town of Chemung, on the 31st ult., Mr. ISAAC BALDWIN, son of Lathrop and Sarah Baldwin, aged 31 years. Mr. B. was a very worthy and intelligent young man and when his country called for volunteers to fight its battle in Mexico, he was in Michigan, and fired by patriotism joined a company for that purpose. His company passed through to Vera Cruz, but not until after the bombardment of that city. He was not engaged in any regular battle, but was an escort to protect the trains from the assaults of the Mexican robbers. He there contracted the disease, which was chronic diarrhea, though he lived to get home, and lingered several months here and baffled all medical skill and finally carried him to the tomb. To his parents and numerous friends it was a severe shock, though long expected (The Elmira Gazette, Elmira, New York, Thursday morning, September 6, 1849).
