Harlan Nathaniel, son of Hannah and Ogro Prentice was born near Merrimac, Wisconsin, July 5, 1862 and passed from this earth April 25, 1944. He lived 82 years 9 months and 25 days

When 10 years of age he came with his father and older brother in covered wagons to a farm in Sac County near Early. On this journey from Wisconsin he took his turn driving the oxen. Two years later his father passed away. Being the second oldest son in a family of eight children much of the responsibility was forced upon him

His entire life was spent in the country. He was always happiest when working the fields and with livestock

On December 22, 1886, he was united in marriage to Eulla E. Carter who survives. To this union five children were born. One daughter, Ethel preceded her father in death. The remaining children are Clarence, Frank and Vera (Mrs. George Baxter) of Sac City and Clive of Spencer. He has eleven grandchildren and two great grandchildren

He is also survived by his three brothers, W.I. of Sac City, Arthur of Wayne, Nebraska and Frank of Emmetsburg

He greatly enjoyed the association of his children and grandchildren. On April 15th he went to see his little great grandson Jerald Darling at the Loring Hospital and was made happy by seeing the baby again a few hours before his death, the last person whom he recognized

He has two grandsons in the service 1st Lt. Meryl L. Prentice and Av. student Raymond Baxter
