Merle Gertrude Sherwin, 92, of Fort Collins, formerly of Sterling, died Wednesday, Sept. 19, 2001 in Fort Collins.
Visitation will be from noon until 8 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 23, at Chaney-Reager Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 24, at the First Presbyterian Church in Sterling with the Rev. Steven Schorr officiating. Burial will be at Riverside Cemetery.
Mrs. Sherwin was born on Jan. 7, 1909 to Charles and Sarah (Robertson) Ballinger in Gentryvillè, Mo. She attended school at Hubbell, Neb., and
Otega and Smith Center, Kan.She continued her education in Proctor and Sterling, where she graduated from high school.
On Oct. 1, 1928 she married Clifford Sherwin in Lusk, Wyo. He was working for the W.C. Harris Cattle Co. at Manville, Wyo., at the time of their mar riage. They later moved to a ranch southeast of Sterling.
She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church and taught Sunday School when her daughters were young. She was active in the Federated Read er's Club and Humanities Club, holding several offices through the years. She was involved with the Sterling Regional MedCenter Auxiliary, a sewing club and DAR. In later years she enjoyed genealogy work and gathering family history.

She was preceded in death by four brothers, Earl, Charles, Oran and Owen Ballinger; five sisters, Velma Branson, Bonnie Gandee, Dorothea Miller, Mil dred Myhre and Lucille Young.
