2nd Lieutenant in the 70th Bomber Squadron, 38th Bomber Group, Heavy, United States Army Air Forces; service ID 724025.

2nd Lt Drewyour was a crewman on B-26B #41-17590, assigned to the 5th Air Force, 38th Bombardment Group, 70th Bombardment Squadron. They were flying from Nandi airfield in Fiji on a local altitude training flight. They had a mid-air collision with P-39D #41-7043 south of Itai Island. Both planes plummeted into the sea and all men aboard were killed.

Charles Drewyour, former Champion high jumper at Cooley High School and Michigan State Normal College, has won his wings as an Army Air Corps navigatpr and a commission as second Lieutenant, he notified his parents, Mr. and Mrs. E. J. Drewyour, of 18988 Northlawn. He enlisted in the Air Corps in October and has been training in California. He was graduated from Cooley in 1937 and from Michigan State Normal in 1940 and then became a chemical engineer for a Flint.

Detroit Parents Hear of Airman Son's Death

Word that their son, Second Lieut. Charles S. Drewyour, of the Army Corps, died Oct. 13, "following a plane accident in the Southwest Pacific" has been received from the War department by his parents, Mr. & Mrs. Ernest J Drewyour, 18988 Northlawn avenue. Lieut. Drewyour, a graduate of Michigan State Normal College, enlisted a year ago and received his wings at Mathers Field, Sacramento, in April. Before enlisting he worked in Flint as a chemist.

Surviving are his parents, a sister, Mrs, Meridith Kahler, and a brother Thomas, both also of Detroit.
