Mrs. McPherson was the former Arena Mary Carmichael. She was the daughter of the late Sam B. Carmichael.
Miss Arena Carmichael married J.M. Tomlinson on 5 March 1905 and he preceded her in death on 2 September 1942.

Mrs. McPherson moved to Graham in 1956 from Newcastle. She was a Baptist.
Survivors: her husband, J.A. McPherson; four daughters - Mrs. Tressie Elkins; Mrs. Truman Mayes, Mrs. Ross Avertt, Mrs. John Chilcoat; two sons - Wilburn Tomlinson; Ira Lee Tomlinson; sister - Mrs. E.E. Brockman; 17 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren.
