TAKEN AT AGE OF 70 ON DECEMBER 30, '48
The community was saddened last Friday, December 30, 1948 to hear of the sudden passing of Mrs. Ida Pearl Patterson, beloved pioneer of Pomeroy for 42 years, who died at the Memorial hospital after a brief illness.
Funeral services were held Sunday, January 2 at 2 pm from the Richardson Funeral Home with the Rev. Wesley Jones, pastor of her church, the Church of the Nazarene, officiating. Burial was in City Cemetery.
Ida Pearl Cox was born November 20, 1878 at Allen, Texas, she and her twin sister, Berdie, the eldest of eight children to Aaron and Mary Cox.
At the age of ten she moved with her family to Spokane coming on early-day immigrant train. Two years later the family moved to Cottonwood, Idaho, and a short time later to Nezperce, Idaho, where they homesteaded land.
Pearl resided there until her marriage to Andrew J. Fay in 1895. To this union were born three children, Grace Rickman, Lenore, Idaho; Lloyd Fay, Hermiston Oregon; and Charles, who died in infancy.
In 1906 she moved to Pomeroy, where on June 2, 1907 she was united in marriage to James Patterson, of Pomeroy. Two Children, Myrn Miller, Dayton, and James, Pomeroy, were born to this marriage.
Her husband preceded her in death on March 29, 1945.
Mrs.Patterson was a faithful member of the Church of the Nazarene, attending services regularly as her health permitted, and member of the Rebekah Lodge.
Shis is survived by her five children, and by her brothers and sister, Berdie Macklin, Middletown, Calif.; Lulu Belle Latimer, San Francisco, Calif; Ethel Shockley, Brownsville, Texas; Charles Cox, Pomeroy; James Cox, Clarkston; George Cox, Mica; and Gale Routh, Pasco.
Grandchildren surviving are Donna England, Robert Moses, Dennis, Richard and Randy Patterson and great grandchild, Francine England.
