Served in R.F. Kolb's Battery (artillery), CSA. Enlisted 15 April 1862; mustered out 30 April 1865 at Augusta, Georgia. Returned home to Eufaula, Barbour Co., Alabama. Relocated family to Apopka, FL, in 1883. One of the first to grow strawberries in Florida. Removed to Lakeland in about 1895. Had citrus groves and cattle on his land, which is now the campus of Florida Southern College.

Tombstone in Roselawn Cemetery gives birth year as 1835, but his Civil War Soldier's Pension Application to the State of Florida, filled out in his own hand, lists October 2, 1836, as birth date.
