SAN ANGELO L.D. Byrd, Jr., age 88 of San Angelo, passed away at a local hospital on Saturday, April 10, 2010. He was born to L.D. Byrd, Sr. and Virgie Phillips Byrd on Aug. 3, 1921, in Brown County Texas. A visitation will be held from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Monday, April 12, 2010, at Johnson's Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, April 13, 2010, at Johnson's Funeral Home with Pastor Gerald Bastin officiating. The burial will be at 3 p.m. on Tuesday, April 13, 2010, at Bangs Cemetery in Bangs, Texas. L.D. graduated from Bangs High School. He was a veteran of WWII and served in Germany with the US Army infantry. L.D. was employed at Sherwood Oil for 32 years. He married the love of his life, Maurine Buse Byrd on Sept. 6, 1942, in Santa Anna. His hobbies were RV'ing, fishing, tending to his beautiful yard and enjoyed bowling with his many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother Renaud Byrd; and sister Lavenia Mae Caffee. L.D. is survived by his wife of 67 years, Ruth Byrd; daughter Judy Tyler and her husband Arnold of Eden, Texas; granddaughters Teri Cavender and husband Mike of Burnet, Texas, Marla Tatum and her husband Justin of Gatesville, Texas; great-grandchildren Cory and Kyle Cavender, Shy and Stormy Tatum; his sisters, Celia Byrd of Seattle, Wash., Dorothy Rose of San Antonio, Glenda Packer of Brownwood, Texas; and numerous nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be Steve Byrd, Keith Rose, Brian Rose, Jim Bob Meek, Doug Meek, Merl Jones. Honorary Pallbearers are C.F. and June McSpadden, Minnie and Gary Young, George and Velda Samuels, George and Billie Jean Ricks and Sam and Mary Lee Keeny. The family would like to give a special thanks to Dr. Powell and Dr. Denver Marsh. Donations made me made to your favorite charity.
