Death of Davis M. Jerome
Davis M Jerome of Conesus, who was taken suddenly ill with a heart attack Wednesday night of last week, passed away Saturday evening at 8 o'clock.
Mr Jerome was born April 10, 1848, on what is known as Camp Run farm at Lakeville, the son of Myron D and Sarah Davis Jerome and one of a family of six children, four sons and two daughters. He resided in the town of Livonia nearly all his years until his marriage June 8, 1874, to Miss Laura Barnes of Conesus, where he has since resided. Mrs Jerome died in 1917.
He was at one time a member of the order of F & AM, retiring from the order some years ago as age lessened his activities and interest in outside organizations. He was a member of the choir of the Universalist church for many years until services were discontinued there and later sang in the choir of the newly-organized Community church. He was actively engaged in farming up to the time of his death, a Republican in politics, a man of strict integrity and of a personality which made for him many friends.
Mr Jerome is survived by one brother, H Hobart Jerome of Livonia; one sister, Mrs Sarah J Darnard of the town of Richmond; several nephews and nieces; a number of grand nephews and nieces, and one each great-great nephew and niece; also a niece of Mrs Jerome, Miss Mary Barnes, who had been as a daughter to them and who had lived in the family since infancy.
Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock from his late home, the Rev C W Hayes of Scottsburg officiating. Burial was in the Arnold Cemetery, Conesus.
