Hunter Hudson Kimball, 78, well-known Coast real estate broker, and a resident of 953 East Beach, Pass Christian, died unexpectedly Monday morning at 11 o’clock at Keesler Air Force Medical Center where he had been a patient for one day. The funeral service will be held this afternoon at 4 o’clock at Lang Funeral Home Chapel in Gulfport with the Rev. Roy C. Bascom, rector of St. Peter’s By-the-Sea Episcopal Church, officiating. Cremation will follow.

Mr. Kimball, born July 14, 1893, in Jackson, Miss., was owner and operator of Kimball’s Realty. He had been a resident of the Coast since 1939 and was a former resident of Starkville and Jackson. Mr. Kimball was a member of St. Peter’s By-the-Sea Episcopal Church. A graduate of Mississippi A&M College (now Mississippi State University), he was an outstanding football player at the college and in 1911 and 1913 he made All Southern. In 1912 he was out for injuries and did not play.

He served with the U.S. Army for 20 years during and after World War I and retired with the rank of major. In World War II, he reenlisted and served in Australia. Since retirement he was affectionately known as “Major.” His only son, Hunter H. Kimball Jr., first lieutenant, 19th Infantry, U.S. Army, was killed in action in Korea July 15, 1950. His wife, Mrs. Effie Jane Mulford Kimball, died Feb. 24, 1967, after a marriage of 49 years.

In 1938, Mr. Kimball was appointed commissioner of the Mississippi Game and Fish Commission. Mr. Kimball was the first president of Coast Chapter of the National Society, Sons of the American Revolution; member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Alfred Alleman Post, Gulfport; BPO Elks Lodge 978, Gulfport; the M Club of Mississippi State University Football Hall of Fame; life member Mississippi State University Alumni Association; life member of Abert Lodge No. 89, F&AM, Starkville, the Meridian Consistory and Hamassa Shrine Temple, Meridian.

Mr. Kimball was also a past president of the Mississippi Real Estate Commission; a charter member and past president of the Gulfport Real Estate Board which is now Gulfport Board of Realtors; a life member, Retired Officers Association of the U.S. Army; and a member of the Sons of Confederate Veterans, Jeff Davis Camp 786, Biloxi.

His only survivors are nieces, nephews and cousins.
