The 1880 Federal Census shows Eva Hagen living with her sister Anna and her husband John Popp. Eva was shown on the Census (Dubois County, Harbison Twp.) as being 18 which was her correct age.
About a month after the Census was taken Eva married John Meyer.
Eva Hagen Myers was thought to be rather easy going and was somewhat of a settling influence on her husband John. She was shorter than average - possibly under 5 feet and somewhat on the "stout" side, at least in her later years. She cared much for her husband and children, centering much of her life around them. Apparently she was a good cook and enjoyed fixing for her family.
Marjorie Medlock Lewis, my wife's mother, daughter of Carrie, says that she loved to go to her grandparents home. She remembers some of the furnishings, especially the wall to wall rug that could be taken apart and washed. She also remembers some of the dishes etc. and especially grandmother's dresses.
Eva retained much of her German dialect, perhaps even more so than her husband John. She corresponded with relatives that still lived in Germany.
During the last 8 or 9 years of her life she was totally blind having suffered from glaucoma. She died in 1946 at the age of 84 and was buried beside her husband in Leesville cemetery.
More About EVA HAGEN:
Burial: Leesville, Indiana- Methodist Episcopal Church Cemetery
Medical Information: Duing the last 8-9 years of her life she was totally blind having suffered from glaucoma.
