Mr. Hoopes was educated at the Friends’ Central School, Philadelphia, following which he was for three years in the woolen business. In 1853 he removed to West Chester and became a prominent nurseryman.He was one of the founders of the Hoopes Bros. and Thomas Co., nurserymen. Abner married Malinda Marshall Worthington on May 22, 1865. They were the parents of Wilmer Worthington Hoopes and Sarah Andrews Hoopes Baker. For several years he was a member of the board of trustees of the Norristown Insane Asylum.
