Per obit in The Spartanburg Herald, Spartanburg,SC, Mrs. Julia Foster Leathers, 71, of 176 Avant St. died at 6:00 yesterday morning at Spartanburg General Hospital. Mrs.Leathers was born in Greenville,a daughter of Abiel A. and Julia Worthington Foster.
She moved to Spartanburg in early childhood, where she went to Miss Gamewell's School, later attending Converse College. She was a member of the class of 1893, the first class graduating from Converse. Mrs. Leathers taught school in Abbeville and Greenwood, later returning to Spartanburg where she was secretary to Dr. Robert P. Pell, President of Converse College, for a number of years. In 1922 she was married to John A.Leathers, Spartanburg Cotton Broker, who died in 1941. She was a life-long member of the First Presbyterian Church of Spartanburg.
Mrs. Leathers had been in declining health for several years and suffered a stroke the latter part of last week.
Surviving are two step-sons, L. Hudson Leathers of Orange, N.J. and John A. Leathers,Jr. of Spartanburg,SC; sisters, Miss Edith Foster, who is doing missonary work in Brazil, and Mrs. Albert Fant of Belton; one brother, Alfred Foster of Belton, and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at J.F.Floyd mortuary this morning At 11:00 with Dr. A.W.Dick, pastor of the First Presbyterian Church officiating, followed by burial in Oakwood Cemetery.
Active pallbearers will be John Bell, Dr.L.M.Kennedy, Dr. E.B.Hammond, James McCutcheon, John Cantrell and Howard Carlisle,Jr.
