Macon-Ruth Stewart Thurston, 83, passed away Friday April 9, 2010 surrounded by her loving family. Graveside services will be held Tuesday April 13, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. Rosehill Cemetery with Pastor Marvin Lee officiating. Visitation will be held Monday April 12, 2010 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Hart's on Cherry Street. Family may be contacted at the home of Doug and Sally Carden.
Mrs. Thurston was born on February 6, 1927 to the late Robert A. Stewart and the late Minnie Goldsmith Stewart. She was a graduate A.L. Miller Senior High where she was a member of Sigma Alpha Sorority. She was a member of Cherokee Heights Methodist Church. Mrs. Thurston was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and a wonderful homemaker. She loved her family, working in her yard, the beach and dancing. Since the death of her husband, Dan Thurston in 2002 "GiGi" spent her days rocking, singing to, and playing with her 5 great- grandboys. She was preceded in death by her brother, Robert "Hook" Stewart.
She leaves to cherish her memory her daughter Sally (Doug) Carden of Macon; a son Danny (Lora) Thurston of Forsyth; 5 grandchildren, Will (Amy) Davidson, Paige (Ken) Garvin, Daniel Thurston, Virginia (Bill) Thomas, Natalie (Jason) Stanfield and 5 great-grandsons, Mac and Marshall Garvin; Win, Webster and Whit Davidson.
Because of her love for "the babies", in lieu of flowers, donations my be made to the Methodist Home for Children , 304 Pierce Avenue, Macon , Ga. 31204.
