Bayard served as a Second Lieutenant & Navigator on B-24J "Patsy" #42-50662, 564th Bomber Squadron, 389th Bombardment Group, Eighth Air Force, U.S. Army Air Force during World War II.

He resided in Wilmington, New Castle County, Delaware prior to the war.

Bayard was "Killed In Action" while serving as the navigator while on a mission over Hanau, Germany.

He had served in the Air Corps for one year and six months at the time of his death and was awarded the Air Medal and a Purple Heart.
