Arthur Thomas Best, son of Wallace and Sarah Best, was born near Oakes, ND on Feb 21, 1908. He was united in marriage to Gladys Wickwire at Oakes on Oct 19, 1935 and following their marriage they farmed in the Oakes area. In 1946 they moved into Oakea where he was employed at the Oakes Livestock Sales Barn and continued to work there until closed a few years ago. He has been retired since 1973.
Mr Best took seriously ill on Wednesday morning and was hospitalized. He passed away at the Oakes hospital on Thursday evening and at the time of his death had reached the age of 69 years.
Left to mourn his passing are his wife and 4 children, Richard of Grand Forks, ND, Larry, Lincoln, NE, Daryl of Fargo, ND and Cleone, Mrs Dan Martin, of Omaha, NE. he is also survived by 7 grandchildren, 1 brother, Howard of Oakes and 1 sister Marie, Mrs Russell Nielsen, of Minnepolis, MN.
Funeral services were held at the United Methodist Church, in Oakes on Saturday afternoon at 2:00 p.m. with Rev Otto Lehner officiating. Mrs Larry Roney was the organist and Wayne Nielsen was the soloist and sang "How Great Thou Art" and "The Old Rugged Cross". The casket-bearers were Jay Nelson, Ray Schnell, Kermit Smith, George Fordyce, Glenn Hudson, and Harvey Karas. The interment was in the Oakesview Cenetery, Haugen Baldwin Funeral Home of Oakes was in charge of arrangements.
