Enlisted at the age of 17

William H. Roberts is believed to be the last person to die who witnessed both the assassination of Abraham Lincoln and the captue of John Wilkes Booth a few day later.
Mr. Roberts with some of his companions in the army were present at Ford's theatre in Washington on the night of April 14, 1865 when Lincoln was shot.

He was also a member of Stoker Post, G.A.R.
He retired in 1920 from the Findlay post office and was caretaker.
He was the son of William and Marie Roberts
He was born in Vermont, and came to Hancock County about 40 yrs. later.
He married Miss Henrietta James on July 25, 1875, two son and two daughters survive.
