Chester A. "Chet Anderson, one of Santa Rosa's first chiropractors, died Thursday in his sleep of natural causes. He was 79.

Anderson was born in Battle Lake, Minn., in 1919 and attended schools in Fergus Falls, Minn. In his youth, he enjoyed hunting and fishing, playing tennis and ice hockey. He also worked in his father's grocery store. He earned his bachelor's degree from Concordia College in Moorhead, Minn.

During World War II, Anderson served as a photographer for Stars & Stripes and as an X-ray technician at an Australian military hospital. In 1944, he married his sweetheart, Inez Wedell Lee. He returned home after the war and graduated from the Lincoln Chiropractic College Indianapolis, Ind., in 1946.

The couple settled in Elbow Lake, Minn., where Anderson opened his first practice and where his first two children, Paul and Karen Mozelle, were born and raised. The Andersons moved to Santa Rosa in 1960, where their third child, Eric, was born. Anderson retired from work in 1984.

Anderson loved to travel, visiting all 50 states, and twice journeying to Norway and Sweden to visit relatives. He was an avid golfer, fisherman and hunter, and enjoyed taking photographs of his travels.

He and his wife also played bridge with couples from all over town for more than 35 years. They played several nights a week and belonged to several bridge clubs. He was a longtime member of the Lions' Club and belonged to the SIRS club. He also was a member of Sons of Norway.

In addition to his wife, Inez Anderson of Santa Rosa, Anderson is survived by his sister, Mozelle Johnson Fulford of Cincinnati, Ohio; two sons, Pual Anderman of Leavenworth, Wash.; and Eric Anderson of Greeley, Colo.; a daughter, Karen Mozelle Anderson of Grass Valley' and five grandchildren.

A memorial service service and open house will be from 1 to 3 p.m. today at the family home in Santa Rosa.
