Edward D Miller, for many years a resident on the Dickey-Sargent county line, passed away Sunday April 18 at the age of 78 years, 2 months and 23 days. He had been in poor health for the last three years. He was a real homemaker and devoted his every effort to the best interests of his children.
Edward Dominic Miller was born Jan. 26, 1876 in Germany. He came to America at the age of 7 with his parents. In Dec. 23, 1898 he was united in marriage to Louise E. Splinter at Jackson, Minn. To this union nine children were born, one of whom passed away in infancy. The family came to Dickey county in 1907 and have since resided in this area. He leaves to mourn six sons: Melvin, Edward and George of Oakes; Floyd of Miami, Fla.; Harry of Winona, Minn.; and two daughters, Mrs. Ira Moore (Katherine) of Plush, Ore. and Mrs. Henry Schmidt (Edna) of Crete. Also surviving are 20 grand children and four great-grand children, one brother and four sisters. Mrs. Miller preceded him in death in 1944.
Mr. Miller had spent the winter in Florida with his two sisters and son Floyd, returning here in March. He had been in poor health since.
Funeral services were conducted at the Methodist church in Oakes last Wednesday at 2 p.m. with Rev H. J. Empie officiating. Mrs. Empie served as organist. Mrs. Roy Swanson and Mrs. Albert Klein sang, and Emmett Haugen sang "Softly and Tenderly Jesus is Calling." Burial was in Oakesview cemetery. Pall bearers were J.H. Kilzer, Paul Roney, Martin Malmberg, H. A. Pfaff, Hiram Johnson and Floyd Ferguson. The obituary in The Oakes Time in 1954.
