E. Brintlinger, 72, Dies; Rites On Wednesday
Elmer O. Brintlinger, 72, funeral director for 54 years, died at 9:30 a.m. yesterday in St. Mary's Hospital. He had been ill since July 1951, and entered the hospital nine weeks ago.
He was the father of Harold Brintlinger, coroner of Macon County, and he lived at 434 S. Boyd St.
A son of the late Daniel and Estella Gasaway Brintlinger, he was born on Oct. 9, 1879, in Austin Township, His father established Brintlinger's Funeral Home here in 1890, the oldest existing Decatur funeral home. Elmer Brintlinger joined his father in Business in 1898 after he graduated from Decatur High School.
He served as Macon County coroner from 1912 to 1916.
Brintlinger was a member, secretary and former master of Ionic Lodge No. 312, AF&AM and a member of Macon Chapter No. 21, RAM; Decatur Council No. 16, RSM; Beaumanoir Commandery No. 9, Knights Templar; Ansar Shrine, Decatur Chapter No. 111, Order of Eastern Star; Eagles Lodge No. 507 and First Methodist Church.
He was married to Jessie C. Brown in Decatur on June 20, 1907.
He leaves his wife, a son, Harold; and a daughter, Mrs. Helen B. Smith, Dallas Tex.; a grandson and a granddaughter, a brother, Mahlon D.; and a sister, Mrs. John L. Helphinstine, both of Decatur. Another brother died previously.
The body is in Brintlinger's Funeral Home where friends may call after 7 p.m. today. Services will be at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday in Brintlinger's chapel with burial in Fairlawn Cemetery.
