SOUTHBURY - John B. Slavin, 90, of Southbury, died Monday, April 5, at Waterbury Hospital. He was the husband of Shirley (Kipp) Slavin.

Mr. Slavin was born July 23, 1919, in Waterbury, son of the late John F. and Anna C. (Pierce) Slavin. He graduated from Crosby High School in 1937 and had the first number (#158) in the October, 1940, selective service draft. He was a veteran of World War II, serving with the 102nd Infantry of the Connecticut National Guard in the South Pacific Theater and with the 326th Glider Infantry and 517th Parachute Infantry of the 13th Airborne Division in the European Theater.

He retired from the U.S. Postal Service after 36 years, working in Waterbury and Wolcott.

He lived in Wolcott for 33 years and was a charter member of St. Pius X Catholic Church, serving on the church building committee. He and his wife moved to Southbury in 1988 and became parishioners of Sacred Heart Church.

Besides his wife of 60 years, he leaves his daughter, Teresa Smith and her husband, Tom, of Southbury; his grandson, Jeremy Smith of Southbury; and two sisters, Mary Ann Slavin of Wolcott and Ann Connor of Rockaway Point, N.Y.

He was predeceased by his brother, James.

A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 10, at Sacred Heart Church, 910 Main St. South. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery. Friends may call from 9 a.m. Saturday until the time of the Mass in the daily chapel of the church. Arrangements are by Carpino Funeral Home, 750 Main St. South.
