Mary Elizabeth Sneed, beloved wife, mother, and grandmother, passed away Monday, October 3, 2011, in Weatherford, Texas.

Mary was born to Texas pioneer Joe and Fannie Belle Slatton in Scranton, Texas, on August 7, 1923. She was the youngest of ten children.

The family moved to Cisco when she was a young girl, and she attended school there. She was voted most beautiful girl of her freshman class.

As a young lady, she worked as a switchboard operator for Southwestern Bell during World War II.
She married R.M. Sneed upon conclusion of the war. They moved to Eastland to start a life together and a successful business.

Mary was mother to two daughters, Shelia Kay Wright and Martha Suzanne (Susie) Maynard. She raised her daughters to cherish the Christian faith and to attain the education that she and R.M. valued and supported. Her family was her pride and joy, and she worked countless hours to provide them with a beautiful life. It was not uncommon to find Mary cooking a delicious meal or baking a homemade pineapple cake.

She was a faithful member of the First United Methodist Church in Eastland, TX. She also served as past member of Order of the Eastern Star, as well as President of the Beta Sigma Phi sorority.

She was preceded in death by her husband, R.M. Sneed, her parents, and all 9 of her precious siblings, as well as her uncle, Texas Supreme Court Judge C.S Slatton.
She is survived by her daughters, Shelia Wright of Eastland and Susie Maynard and son-in-law Howard of Weatherford, TX. Grandchildren Kevin Wright and wife Amy of Eastland, Vicki Wright-Bradley and husband Jeff of Eastland, Kristi Wright-Brixey and husband Jeryl of Comanche, Brandi Wright of Arlington, Jennifer Maynard-Noble and husband Jamie of Keller, Robyn Maynard-Hensley and Andrew Maynard of Weatherford. Great grandchildren Tyler, Brady, and Cooper Wright, Mason Underwood, Madison and Miles Bradley, Kaytlin and Kamryn Brixey, Kristian Hensley, and Joseph Noble. She is also survived by a host of nieces and nephews in which she loved very much.
