He was an ex-Confederate soldier and he came to Texas a few years after the close of the Civil War, stopping in Dallas County where he resided one year, then moved to Wichita County wher he lived four years following which he moved to Gainesville in 1879 where he had since resided.
He died at his home, his death attributed to Bright's disease of the kidneys.
He is survived by his wife and four children, the latter all grown and married. They are John Delap of Waco, Jesse of Gainesville, residing a few miles east of the city, Mrs Martha Waggoner of San Antonio and Mrs. Sarah Wingert of this city, all of whom are here and attended the funeral.
