Mrs. Robert Baird, a pioneer resident of the city for 34 years, passed away about 4 o'clock Wednesday morning at the family residence on East Fourth Street after an illness of several weeks.
Mrs. Baird was born in Michigan in 1849. Surviving her are one daughter, Mrs. Ben H. Hibbard of Ellensburg, five sons, George F. Baird of Auburn, Howard E. of Ellensburg, Robert E. Jr. of Yakima, Wilfred of Thrall and Harry of Chicago, and two sisters, Dr. Fanny Platt of Kalamazoo, Michigan, and Mrs. Nellie Gleason of Pasadena, California. Mr. and Mrs. Baird has been married for 49 years.
Mr. Baird at the time of his retirement as an engineer on the N. P. was the oldest engineer on the road. He retired about a year ago. The Eastern Star of which Mrs. Baird has been an active member for many years will have charge of the funeral which is to be held Friday afternoon at 2 o'clock from the Methodist Church with the Rev. J. W. Caughlan officiating.
