Sacred to the Memory of the Rev. Elisha J. Dodson who was born in Stokes Co, N.C., March the 31, 1788, and died July the 29, 1842. Aged 54 years, 3 mos, & 29 days.

Charles Dodson 1747–1831
Caroline Lucy Morgan 1761–1823

Elisha's first marriage was to Elizabeth Wren in 1810; she died in 1813. They had a daughter, Matilda.

His second marriage was to Jane Elizabeth Blackwell in Warren Co, KY on May 2, 1814. Their children were:

3. Angeline F. b-1818 d-1886 (wife of Chafin Frost)
4. Elizabeth B. b-1820 d-1876 (wife of Ariariah Seeley)

6. Mary T. b-1824 (wife of Odem Cox)
7. Wesley Clark b- 28 May 1829 d-Aug 1914 (husband of Sarah A. Moffitt & Elizabeth(Bessie)Watson.

Elisha moved to Kentucky with his parents settling in that part of Warren County which became Allen County in 1815, where he had a grant of 200 acres of land on July 23, 1799, and another grant of 200 acres on June 30, 1807.

In 1818 he moved to Madison Co, AL. He was in Madison when he appeared before the county court on Sept. 6, 1821, and presented his credentials as a Methodist preacher. It is said that after he joined the Methodist Episcopal Church he spent the remainder of his life as a traveling preacher.

In Madison Co, AL, Elisha J. witnessed the will of Thomas Jones and was security for the widow. Rachel Jones, on her testamentary bond, Sept. 24, 1821 (Minutes of the Orphan's Court, Madison Co, AL, 1821-1823, Bk 2, p. 2).

In the fall of 1832 he moved to Williamson Co, TN locating four miles from Franklin. The following fall he bought a farm on the line between Williamson and Davidson Counties. Here he lived until the fall of 1836 when on September 29th he bought a farm in Marshall Co, TN near the Williamson County Line. In the deed he is called "Elisha J. Dodson of Davidson Co."

He resided in Marshall Co until his death on July 29, 1842. He was buried in Murdock-Dowdy Cemetery.

Elisha's widow, Elizabeth, was living in Sumter Co, AL in the vicinity of Livingston in 1850 with her daughter, Angeline Frost.
