He married Henrietta Alabaugh on May 24, 1874. Henry taugh school for 11 years. He taught one year each in schools in West Manheim, Penn and Heidelberg Townships and eight years at Bunker Hill in Hanover. He was a justice of the peace in Hanover, PA for 56 years. He was clerk of the York Co. [PA] Courts from 1888-91 and continued to serve as an assistant clerk of courts for 30 years. He was one of the few officials who could conduct a hearing in "Pennsylvania Dutch" for witnesses who were not fluent in English. In addition to his work as a magistrate, he conducted a real estate business handling the rental of his own and clients' properties. He was active the Hanover-Littlestown Turnpike Company, the Hanover Light, Heat and Power Co., the Hanover & McSherrystown Street Railroad Co., the former Hanover Record-Herald newspaper, the American Foundry and Machine Co. and at the time of his death he was president of the Mt. Olivet Cemetery board, a position which he held for many years. He was active in several fraternal organizations and in local politics. The Sells had seven children: Emma, Harry, Lewis, Tempest, Blanche Jones, Edna and Madeline.
