Carl A. Beier Sr., 72, Topeka, died Thursday, April 11, 2002, at his home. He was born Sept. 13, 1929, in Topeka, the son of George Joseph Sr. and Catherine Melchoir Beier.

Mr. Beier was a retired Rubber Worker of America member and had worked for the Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. for 30 years before he retired in 1980. He graduated from Hayden High School in 1947 and was a lifelong Topeka resident. Mr. Beier was a member of Assumption Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus Council No. 2608 and Rubber Workers Local Union No. 307.

Survivors include six sons, Carl A. Beier Jr., St. Louis, Michael A. Beier, Buena Vista, Va., Joseph R. Beier and Denis A. Halleron, both of Topeka, Max G. Beier, Bullhead City, Ariz., and David W. Halleron, Emporia; three daughters, Diane M. Donis, Fayetteville, Ark., and Dawn E. Dennis and Debra K. Edwards, both of Topeka; a brother, George Beier, Sequim, Wash.; three sisters, Sophia Rolsing, Topeka, Sister Mary Loretta Beier, Leavenworth, and Marta Maples, Little Rock, Ark.; 24 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Assumption Catholic Church. Burial will be at Mount Calvary Cemetery. Mr. Beier will lie in state from 2 to 9 p.m. today at Davidson Funeral Home, where rosaries recited by the parish at 4 p.m. and the Knights of Columbus at 4:30 p.m. will be followed by visitation until 5:30 p.m.

Contributions may be made to Assumption Catholic Church or Midland Hospice and sent in care of the funeral home.
