OBITUARY: Sudden Death At Belgium - Nic. Tholl, Pioneer Resident of Belgium, Goes to His Reward - Profound sorrow was caused at Belgiun last Friday when the report became current that Nic Tholl, a pioneer resident of that community, had died suddenly that morning. Mr. Tholl had been in the best of health and it was a shock to everybody when the news spread that he had died.
Mr. Tholl was born at Bissen, Luxemburg, on November 1, 1847 and when ten years of age he came to America with his parents. They settled in the town of Belgium where he has resided ever since, with the exception of a few years spent at Albany, Minnisota, with his daughgters, Mrs. A. Wester and Mrs. Frank Ohman.
Mr. Tholl was married on November 6, 1872 to Miss Katharine Knaff who preceded him in death five years ago. He is survived by seven children as follows: Mrs. Aloys Wester of Albany, Minnesota; Mrs. J. P. Schommer of Port Washington; Sister M. Bilhild of Notre
Dame Convent, Milwaukee; Miss Mollie Tholl and Mrs. Jack Comerford of Evanston, Illinois; Mrs. Frank Ohman, of Albany, Minnesota; and Nic E. Tholl at whose home he died. One daughter, Mrs. John Croatt preceded him in death four years ago. He is also survived by four sisters and one brother, Mrs. Greden of Spokane, Washington, Mrs. J. P. Knaff of Port Washington, Mrs. J. N. Knaff of Belgium; Mrs. Joe May of Sturgis, South Dakota; Frank Tholl of Sioux City, Iowa.
The funeral was held Monday, services being held at the St. Mary's church at Lake Church at ten o'clock in the morning. (unknown newspaper, 18 Oct 1923)
