My great-grandfather.

Mr. Jacob C. Varble, one of Trimble County's most highly respected citizens, died
Tuesday morning at 7 o'clock at the home of his son, Mr. James Varble, in the Mt.
Pleasant neighborhood, after an illness of several months, although he was confined
to his bed only a few days with stomach, heart and dropsical trouble. Funeral
services were conducted this (Thursday) morning at the Baptist Church in Bedford by
Rev. Coleman and Rev. Vincent, following which the remains were interred in the Odd
Fellows' Cemetery. Mr. Varble was born 12 Jul, 1816, in Oldham County, but most of
his long, useful and well-spent life was lived in Trimble where his acquaintance was
large and his friends unlimited. He was a successful farmer and highly esteemed as
a citizen and neighbor. Thirty-seven years ago he united with the Baptist Church
and was a consistent member. He was also a prominent member of the lodges of Red
Men and Odd Fellows, both orders taking part in the funeral and interment services.
Truly a good man has been taken from among us.
Nov. 23, 1873, he was married to Miss Susan Belle Henry, of Carroll County, who
died January 02, 1917. To this union were born nine children, namely: R. H.
Varble, Menlo, Kansas; Mrs. J. Lev Gossom, Milton; Mrs. Walter Garriott, Bedford;
Mr. James Varble, Mt. Pleasant; Mrs. Charles Jackson, from near Kent, Indiana, Mrs. Emmett Jackson, Bedford, Charles Chancellor "Charlie" Varble, Moorefield, Indiana,
attended his funeral at Pleasant View Church, where he was laid to rest beside the
remains of his wife, who preceded him to the grave nearly five years.
