Caleb Hayse, the 6th of the 12 children of John H. "Jack" Hayse and Catherine "Catey" Decker, was born on April 19, 1809 in the area of Ohio County, Kentucky that became Grayson County in 1810. His maternal grandparents were William Decker and Frances "Fannie" Bugg. Caleb married Margaret Putt, the daughter of John and Rosanna (Unknown) Putt, about 1828 in Grayson County. In 1850 his property was valued at $500. By 1860 his propery was valued at $1000.

Caleb and Margaret (Putt) Hayse were the parents of the following 9 children born in Grayson County:

Caleb Hayse died on August 11, 1861 in Grayson County. He was buried in what is now the Elder-Anderson Cemetery south of Caneyville, Grayson County, Kentucky. His widow Margaret Putt Hayse died sometime after the 1870 census.
