Gerald D. Maas, age 78 of Gresham, passed away Wednesday, March 31, 2010 at his home. Born on March 30, 1932 in the Town of Herman, he is the son of the late Everett and Alfricena (Schreiber) Maas. Gerald lived most of his life in the Shawano County area. On September 22, 1962, he was united in marriage to Hazel E. Markham in Eau Claire. The couple was married for nearly 45 years when Hazel passed away on February 13, 2007. Over the years Gerald had worked for a number of different businesses including: the Badger Milk Company in Shawano, the Hoffman Transit in Gresham, the Shawano Airport, and at the Clintonville Airport. For the past 15 years, he was also the sextant for the Gresham Public Cemetery. Gerald also farmed, fixed cars, and rebuilt airplanes at his home. He had a love of music, flying, bowling, golfing, genealogy, and for a short time, was a 1st Lieutenant in the Civil Air Patrol for the Shawano Chapter. Gerald was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, and he loved to discuss the gospel with his family, friends and neighbors. Gerald was well loved by many and will be greatly missed.

Gerald is survived by: 5 children, Gene (Cara Smith) Maas of Shawano, Ganelle Naud of Plover, Lorilei (John) Basore of Crystal River, FL, Daniel (Lynette) Maas of Heber City, UT, Rhonda Maas of Gresham; 13 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; and 1 great great-grandson. Gerald is further survived by: 2 sisters, Janice Januszewski of Milwaukee, Donna (Raymond) Pletcher of Ardmore, OK; 6 brothers-in-law; 8 sisters-in-law and his former wife Georgetta Gonzales.

Gerald was preceded in death by: his wife, Hazel; a son, Brian Maas; a daughter, Gail Maas; a granddaughter, Stephanie McKenna; his parents; 2 sisters, Joycelyn Maas and Patricia Henning; a brother, Ralph Maas; 5 brothers-in-law; and a sister-in-law.

Funeral services will be held at 11am on Tuesday, April 6, 2010 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Gresham with the Bishop Dennis Rekow officiating. Burial will be in the Gresham Public Cemetery in the Town of Herman. Family and friends may call the Swedberg Funeral Home in Gresham on Monday from 4-8pm and at the church on Tuesday after 10am until the time of the service.
