Floyd Barton , 82, of 372 Hurley Road, died at 5:03 p.m. Sunday in Massena Memorial Hospital.

Mr. Barton managed Harry L. Weiner Hardware Store, Syracuse, and was employed by Aluminum Company of America, Massena, from 1936 until his retirement as storeroom clerk in 1968.

He was ordained the first permanent deacon in the Diocese of Ogdensburg on Oct. 4, 1980, at St. Mary's Cathedral, Ogdensburg, with Bishop Stanislaus J. Brzana officiating.

Born May 7, 1917, in Massena, son of Edward and Viola McGregor Barton , he was a graduate of Massena High School and married Beulah A. Besaw on April 23, 1938, at the Church of the Sacred Heart, Massena, with the Rev. Gerald Kellogg officiating.

Mr. Barton was a former member of the Massena Corn Huskers band, a member of the Alcoa 25- Year Club and was president of the board of directors of the Lawrenceville, Brasher, Stockholm Housing Complex.

Surviving besides his wife are three sons, James A. and Theodore T., both of Brasher Falls, and Arthur M., Massena; two daughters and a son-in-law, Marie McCarthy, Piercefield, and Sally and Francis Derouchie, Brasher Falls; 20 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren and several great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Two sons died before him, Floyd Jr. in 1992 and Wayne in 1978. Five brothers, Merlin, Howard, Edward "Johnny," Clarence and Lawrence, and three sisters, Evelyn Rush, Ruth Barry and Irene Reynolds, died before him.

A funeral Mass will be said at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Patrick's Church with the Rev. Clark S. White officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Massena.

Calling hours will be 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Phillips Memorial Home, Massena.
