At his home near Newark, Knox Co., Mo., April 1, 1898, Mr. L. Routte, aged 64 years and 9 months. The subject of this sketch was born in Kentucky, July 1, 1833, and died April 1, 1898. He was married to his first wife Dec. 5, 1861, and after her death to his second wife, Miss Annie E. Nall, Sept. 3, 1893. He leaves no children, but a widow, brothers and sisters, and man friends to mourn their loss. But thanks to our good and loving Saviour, their loss is his gain. They have lost a good and loving husband, brother and friend, and he has gained a crown that never fades, which was "reserved in heaven" for those who love Jesus. Bro. Routte was a good man, a follower of Christ for nearly 30 years. His membership was all the time with Newart Baptist church. He was one of the pillars. To know him was to love him. His funeral sermon was preached by the writer at LaBelle, Mo., to a crowded house of mourning friends and relatives, after which his remains were laid to rest in LaBelle cemetery to await the resurrection morn, when they that "sleep in Jessus will God bring with Him".
"Give joy or grief, give ease or pain,
Take life or friends away;
But let me find them all again
In that eternal day."
