Former White County Man Dies In Missouri James Summers was born in Hardin County, on May 14, 1855, and died at the home of his grand-son, Arnold Buttry, in Puxico, Missouri, December 9, 1938, aged 83 years, 6 months and 25 days.
He was united in marriage to Mary Alice Austin September 10, 1876, Mrs. Summers passing away on March 23, 1895 Eight children were born to this union, three preceding the father in death. Those surviving are Mrs. Rosa Buttry of Kinderpost, Missouri, Mrs. Nora Emrey of Illinois, Mrs. Carrie Winchester of Advance, Missouri, Mrs. Fayetta Hendrix of Puxico, Missouri, and Noah Summers of Risco, Missouri.
Mr. Summers was later married to Rachel Ann Hendrix, February 7, 1896, and Mrs. Summers preceded her husband In death on March 18, 1918.
The deceased was converted at an early age and united with the Baptist Church at Walnut Grove in White County, living a devoted Christian life until death.
Left to mourn his departure are the four daughters and one son mentioned above, thirty-eight grandchildren, thirty great-grand-children and a host of relatives and friends.
The body was brought back here for services and burial at Lick Creek Church, conducted by Rev. John Fowler.
The pallbearers were Willie Buttry, Arnold Buttry, Raymond Buttry, Melford Hendrix, Leland Hendrix and Lelman Hendrix. The floral offerings were in charge of Silva Hendrix and Mary Ellen Buttry.
