Joanna Thompson (1933 - 2008)
On April 11, 2008, the world who knew her mourned, as God rejoiced at receiving a new heavenly angel named Joanna Thompson. Her passing was totally unexpected and left us with an emptiness that can't be filled.
Jo was born September 2, 1933 in Tampa, Florida, the younger of two children born to Marvin and Alma Sherertz.
After spending the first nine years growing up in Ft. Meade, Florida, the family moved to Renton, Washington, where she graduated from Renton High School in 1951.
She attended Washington State University and was an avid Cougar fan. While in college she met and married her lifelong partner and best friend, Ray Thompson.
They embarked on an adventurous career in the Air Force, spending time together in many countries before landing in Carson, where they have lived since 1977.
Jo loved people and people loved her right back. She enjoyed traveling with friends and family and her home was always open to anyone needing a place to stay in Los Angeles. Jo was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, aunt and friend.
She is survived by her husband of 52 years, Ray; two children, Betty and Ray Jr. (Sandi); a granddaughter, Becky; and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Anne Geissler.
Jo will be greatly missed by all of us who enjoyed the love and friendship she gave so freely during her life.
Visitation will be held Friday, April 18, 2008 from 5:00-8:00pm at Green Hills Mortuary in Rancho Palos Verdes.
Funeral services will be Saturday, April 19th at the Green Hills Chapel at 1:00pm.
