Wm. W. Rose died at his home in Rossville, Tuesday night. He was brought home from Indianapolis that day, with the hope that the removal to his home would be beneficial. He had been in the hospital more than three months and had submitted to two operations, but he gradually lost strength and his physicians could not check the decline.

Mr. Rose was the only son of Uriah and Elizabeth Masters Rose. He was born in the southeast part of this state in 1861. In the year 1866 Uriah Rose bought the David C. Clark 160-acre farm, two miles south of Rossville. The editor of the Reporter was present when the Rose family arrived at the farm in a spring wagon. There were six children in the family: Mary, who became the wife of Henry L. Smith; Tamson, who married Albert Gaddis; Nora, the wife of George Smith; Lizzie, who married a Baptist minister in Florida, late in her life, and William and Josie, the latter dying while still a young woman. Mrs. Gaddis was living when we last heard of her, a year ago, in McClure, Kansas. The others are deceased.

Uriah Rose was a local Methodist preacher, and he was a successful farmer. Late in life he bought property in Frankfort, and there he and Mrs. Rose lived the latter years of their life, having turned the farm over to the son.

Early in life Will Rose was united in marriage with Miss Sarah Walter. As issue of this marriage there were nine children, five of whom are living – two sons and three daughters, all married.

Mrs. Rose passed away some five or six years ago, and later on Mr. Rose married Mrs. Lide Kennard Silverthorn, the widow of James Silverthorn, and since that time the couple lived in Rossville, the eldest son, Herbert, having charge of the farm.

Mr. Rose was a Republican, and he was twice elected trustee of his township by that party, and also served two terms in the legislature. He was a member of the Methodist church, the Masonic lodge, the Knights of Pythias, and the Rotary club of Frankfort. The funeral is held today – Friday.
