James Duncan, age 78, died at his home near Mill Springs Saturday after an illness of several years. He was born in Wayne County in 1845 and had always lived here. While he was not highly educated he was a natural philosopher and a deep thinker; and his conversation was very interesting; it is said that he had always been a peace maker and had settle many a difficulty among his neighbors by giving them good sound advice, which in most cases was followed.

Mr. Duncan was married twice, first to Miss Teresa Bobbitt, from which union two children were born, one Mrs. A. Bohon of Temple, Tex., survives, his second wife was Miss Verlina Coffey, from which two children, Mrs. Theo L. Jones of Glasgow and Ed Duncan of Mill Springs were born and survive him.

He is also survived by three sisters and one brother, being Miss Clementine Duncan and W.S. Duncan of this city, and Mrs. George Goddard of Temple, Tex., and Mrs. Isaac Hancock of Texas.

The funeral services were conducted at the home Monday morning by Rev. Bedford Turner, Eli Correll and J.H. Allen, after which the remains were brought to Elk Spring Cemetery for burial.
