Marjorie was born on July 1, 1929 in Walker Creek Community, Lafayette County AR, the oldest child of George and Belle Butler Barnes. She departed this life on Sunday, April 4, 2010 after a lengthy illness.
Marjorie graduated from Springhill High School, BCC and Northwestern State University with a MEd. plus 45 hours in Elementary Education. She taught 5th grade for 18 years at Summerfield Elementary School and 6th through 8th grade at Keithville Middle School for 6 years. Marjorie had a passion for teaching and loved her students. She not only taught academics but tried to instill in her students "believe in yourself," "With hard work and commitment, you can be anything you want to be. "
Marjorie was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church and was active in all phases of the work until failing health prevented her from doing so. Her spirituality and faith touched everyone in her life. She always found ways to be uplifting and encouraging to her friends and family. She was a caretaker. Her dedication and love to her family was truly remarkable and will never be forgotten. She was always the kind of woman who went above and beyond and never hesitated to put her needs second regardless of the situation.
Her favorite past time was interior decorating, crafts, and Genealogy. Marjorie published 2 books on their family history and helped others with their research as well.
Marjorie was an active member of the Eastern Star until failing health and served in many capacities.
She was preceded in death by her parents. Marjorie is survived by her husband of 60 years, Henry Newton Moore, two daughters, Joy Carolyn Moore Thomas; Barbara Ann Moore Lee and husband, Gary; 4 grandchildren, Christopher Scott Lee and wife, Heather and their 2 children, Dylan and Brooke; Michael George Lee and son Seth; Rickey Lee; Kimberly Ann Lee McNeal and husband, Michael; one brother, George Lavern Barnes and wife, Dolores, and their 2 children, Tony Barnes and Madelyn Kaye Barnes Luna.
Honoring Marjorie, as pallbearers will be Chris Lee, Michael Lee, Michael McNeal, Rickey Lewis, and Morris Moore. Honorary pallbearer is Rickey Lee.
Marjorie would say to her family and friends, "I have fought a good fight, I have kept the faith, I have finished my course. Don't' stand at my grave and weep. I am not here, I do not sleep. Just meet me in the morning when your life is through. At the Portals of Glory I'll be waiting for you." Life is like a vapor that appears for a little while and then vanishes away.
