Funeral services for Mrs. Katie Underwood Skaggs were conducted Tuesday afternoon at Parrott & Ramsey Funeral Home Chapel, Rev. Garland Skaggs and Rev. Vester Johnson in charge. Interment was in Arvin Cemetery. She was a member of Mt. Carmel Baptist Church. Mrs. Skaggs was born in Taylor County on October 10, 1901, the daughter of Mrs. Rosie Ellen Shofner Underwood and the late Wilson Underwood, and died at her home in the Old Maple community Monday morning, May 7th, following a long illness. She united in marriage to Ernest A. Skaggs in 1920, and to this union one son and three daughters were born: Charles Skaggs and Mrs. Roscoe Skaggs, both of Taylor County; Mrs. Otis Shofner, Raywick; and Mrs. Chester Anderson of Louisville. Besides her husband and children, she is survived by her mother; two brothers and three sisters: Lonza Underwood and Hurley Underwood, both of Indianapolis, Indiana; Mrs. Mayme Pitman of Louisville; Miss Evie Underwood of Taylor County; and Miss Edna Underwood of Harrodsburg. Also surviving are ten grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Pallbearers were Harden Hedgespeth, Buford Cordwell, Chester Skaggs, Winfrey Skaggs, Willard Wright, and Eugene Wright.
