On June 6,1943, he entered the United States Navy and served until December 8, 1944. He achieved the rank of Seaman 1st Class, which is an E-3.
Officer Camp returned to the St. Louis Police Department on January 24, 1945, working as a helper in the Fleet Services Division. He would go on to receive his commission and was appointed to the department on November 1, 1945. Upon completion of the academy, he served in the 5th, the Traffic Enforcement Section, and finally the 4th district. During his career, he was the recipient of 1 letter of honorable mention on October 28, 1950, for police work above the call of duty. Sadly, while he was an active duty officer, he died of a heart attack at DePaul Hospital. Officer Camp and his brother became 2nd generation police officers to serve in the St. Louis Police Department. At the time of his death, Officer Camp had served a total of 25 years and 14 days of faithful and dedicated service to the Saint Louis Metropolitan Police Department. Officer Camp was the brother of Chief of Police Eugene J. Camp, DSN 3016. It should be noted that their father, Fred H. Camp, was a Saint Louis Police Officer as well.
